7th Grade Art Student Draws Winning Turkey

Franziska Borneff and her winning entry.

Among 50 entries, it was 12 year-old Franziska Borneff’s turkey drawing that gobbled up the glory. Borneff was named the winner of the 2018 Drumstick DASH Turkey Drawing Contest at a reception this afternoon at 2nd Helpings Gallery. Her colorful bird will adorn the front of this year’s Drumstick DASH T-shirt.

A rising 7th grader, Borneff is in the gifted art program at Hidden Valley Middle School. She and her family have participated in the Union Drumstick DASH several times, but she’s especially looking forward to it this year.

“It’s exciting to know a whole bunch of people will be wearing a shirt with a turkey on it that I drew, and it makes me feel good that I’m helping other people,” said Borneff.

The DASH is the Rescue Mission’s largest annual fundraiser. With the motto ‘move your feet so others can eat’, it brings in nearly $300,000 to support the Mission’s Food Services budget. Registration is now open for this year’s event.

Placing second in the drawing contest was 11 year-old Kelly Ingle, with 10 year-old Lauren Hoffman coming in third.
