Cooper will be the furriest and cuddliest Grand Marshal ever for a Roanoke parade. And the first one you can adopt and take home. Join Cooper for a celebration of dogs and their owners, the first Pawpalooza Parade in Roanoke, scheduled in Highland Park for Saturday, July 20.
Participants must pay to register for the Parade, and 100% of the proceeds will go to support the animals of Angels of Assisi, Cooper’s current home. He’s been there for a year now – the only one left of 73 dog and cats rescued by Angels from a hoarding situation in South Carolina.
Angels rescues dogs and cats regularly, taking on their care, housing, and feeding and stretching resources and space to their limits. Angels is making progress for city approval for a beautiful, spacious new building on Elm and Franklin, adjoining the historic Old Southwest neighborhood.
To welcome its soon to be neighbors, the Old Southwest Neighborhood Association Inc. funded and organized the Parade with a goal of raising at least $5,000 for Angels. The Parade will begin at 9 am, starting and finishing at the entrance to Highland Park at the corner of 5th Street and Washington Avenue. Our judges will recognize a few dogs in the Parade in several superlative categories, including “most likely to win the Nobel Prize” or “most likely to steal your lunch”.
Cooper and Old Southwest are not the only ones taking the lead. Blue Ridge Bloodhounds, Fetch N Fly Disc Dogs, Field of Dreams Dog Training, representatives from the Shriners and Roanoke Kennel Club will all participate – either in the Parade or the dog related demonstrations and activities after on the Highland Park fields.
Cooper is already a happy dog, but he would be even happier if you adopted him – and some of his dog and cat friends who will be available for adoption on site – on July 20th.
