Families in need of school supplies are invited to the Roanoke Rescue Mission on July 31st to register for the 13th annual Back 2 School Blast. The annual school supply distribution is set for Saturday, August 11th, and parents must pre-register their children.
Last year, the Back 2 School Blast served over 1,000 children in Southwest Virginia. With a brand new book bag full of school supplies, children may also receive immunizations, school and sports physicals, and brand new shoes and socks.
“The B2SB is such an important community wide event because it brings families together from all over our Valley.” said Rescue Mission Special Projects Coordinator Stacy Boris. “We want any child that does not feel prepared for the upcoming school year to receive the necessary items that will bring confidence to them as they enter a brand new school year. We encourage parents to register on 7/31 so they too, will feel a sense of relief of not having to bear the burden of purchasing school supplies, especially when there are multiple children in in the household.”
Registration will run from 9:00-11:30am in the Community Room of the Women and Children’s Shelter as well as an evening registration session between 5:00-6:30pm. Parents who arrive without their children must provide copies of their children’s birth certificates.
The Back 2 School Blast will be held at Parkway Church on the Mountain on August 10th from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
