ROBERT L. MARONIC: If I Were A Terrorist, (But I Am Not)

FBI director, Christopher A. Wray, told Congress on April 11, “Looking back over my career in law enforcement, I’d be hard pressed to think of a time where so many threats to our public safety and national security were so elevated all at once [my emphasis]. But that is the case as I sit here today.”

That is because our southern border has not been secure, and has been completely broken since Joe Biden assumed the presidency on January 20, 2021.

Wray’s anxiety and consternation are because Biden has allowed over 11 million illegal immigrants to cross our southern border since his inauguration. According to Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Texas Governor Greg Abbott (D), there has never been such an unprecedented number of illegal immigrants coming into the U.S. since 1776.

According to Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) this staggering number of over 11 million illegal immigrants does not include the 1.6 million gotaways, who escaped undetected into the U.S. before the end of fiscal year 2023 (October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2023). I suspect that fiscal year 2024 will be just as bad if not worse.

Stefanik has been estimated that “there were more gotaways in FY21-23 (1.6 million) than the entire decade of FY 2010 to FY 2020 (1.4 million).” Now just imagine that if only 1/10,000th of these 1.6 million people (.0001 x 1.6 million = 160) or 160 people for FY21-23 were potential terrorists. Then the U.S. would have a “real” problem as described by FBI Director Wray on April 11.

I would fully concur with FBI Director Wray, Senator Cruz (R-TX), Texas Governor Greg Abbott (D) and Congresswoman Stefanik (R-NY) that our present domestic national security looks rather grim.

If I were a terrorist, which I clearly am not, I would smuggle the necessary components of a suitcase nuke until I had enough components for at least three or four nuclear bombs. However, my first choice to smuggle these components into the U.S. would not necessarily be our southern border, but also our highly porous and vast unguarded 5,525-mile-long U.S.-Canadian border, especially from the Atlantic Ocean to Lake Ontario.

I also would consider using speed boats from the Bahamas that could evade our radar, drug cartel submarines, the U.S. mail, FedEx, drones and cargo ships that frequently dock at our many Atlantic and Pacific Ocean ports and harbors. That also would include the entire Great Lakes from Alexandria Bay, New York near Lake Ontario to Duluth, Minnesota on Lake Superior, which is a distance of approximately 1,081 miles.

It must be remembered that a one-kiloton suitcase nuke is equal “to one thousand tons of TNT. If a device like this made its way to the U.S., it could destroy everything within a half-mile radius of the Capitol in Washington, D.C. Within hours, prevailing winds would carry the nuclear fallout throughout Washington.”

Once I had three or four viable suitcase nukes, then I would start issuing excruciating and humiliating demands and threaten such American cities as Los Angeles, Seattle, Las Vegas, Chicago, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., New York City, and Philadelphia.

In fact, I might even select a much less populated city on the east coast such as Huntsville, Alabama, Raleigh, North Carolina, Roanoke, Virginia, Richmond, Virginia and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where national security safeguards might be much less stringent. If the first city did not comply with the terrorists’ demands, especially at morning or evening rush hour, then a horrific example of the city’s non-compliance would be made.

Such foreign terrorist organizations that would gladly carry out such death and destruction with glee and aspirations of heavenly martyrdom as described above are ISIS-K, Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran and the Islamic State to name a few.

I personally can think of a much easier, quicker and less expensive way to hold a major or smaller populated American city hostage, but I would prefer not to discuss such diabolical schemes in this column. However, being that I am not an expert in these evil matters I can only get a glimpse into the mind of a terrorist who hates the U.S.

What Biden has allowed to occur since his inauguration has been a national disgrace in his nullification of the rule of immigration law on our southern border. That also includes the massive inflow of illegal drugs, sex trafficking and the possibility of terrorists smuggling the required nuclear components of mass destruction into the U.S. – or much worse – causing much greater destruction than what occurred in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995 or New York City on September 11, 2001.

Hopefully, former President Trump will win the presidential election on November 5, and restore some sanity and common sense in protecting both our southern and northern borders. That way the U.S. may never again experience such a massive influx of unvetted illegal aliens and the possible nightmare of a nuclear Pearl Harbor within our own borders –  or something much worse.
