Roanokers Open “Tech Exchange”

The Tech Exchange opened July 1st of this year by two friends who were tired of the high prices and low trade in values at other second hand electronics and video game stores in town.

Clay Davis and Shan Shapiro have been friends since junior high school and have always been interested in gaming.  Along with another friend, Andrew Roberts, they started a gaming convention called MegaLAN when they were still attending Cave Spring High School.

At first, they rented space in a downtown business, but the gaming convention grew so big they eventually had to rent a hotel ballroom to hold all the attendees, changing the name to FusionGC and attracting corporate sponsors along the way.

The three went off to Radford University together and earned their degrees in various computer and software related fields.  Davis has worked as a social worker, high school teacher, college tutor and an application programmer, but wanted something more.  Shapiro works for HP and has traveled the world spending a lot of time in China.  They both decided to go in to business for themselves “because the opportunity came up and we thought it would work and so far it has gone pretty well,” said Davis.

The Tech Exchange stocks all gaming systems and games from NES to PS3 and their inventory is constantly changing.  “We guarantee to pay more cash for your used video games and electronics than the other guys,” stated Shaprio. “Plus, our prices are always lower than anyone in town and we always match or beat online prices.”

There are three way to get an estimate: bring your item to their store located at 4133 Brandon Avenue, email them with a description at [email protected] or give them a call at 540-904-4474.  For business clients, they will come to your location to offer quotes in person.

The Tech Exchange will buy video games, consoles and accessories, Ipods, MP3 players, GPS units, digital cameras, camcorders, DVD / BluRay movies, CD’s, TV’s, cell phones, computers, printers and the like.  They do not buy guns, jewelry, watches, precious metals or antiques.

For more information, visit www.thetechexchange.net or stop by their store at 4133 Brandon Avenue, which is open at 11:00am Tuesday through Saturday.
