Spring officially began on March 21st but Old Man Winter isn’t quite ready to loosen his grip on Southwest Virginia. Last Tuesday the Valley and surrounding areas received an additional 3-5 inches of snow taking our total since Dec 1st to just over 31″. (Our average mean temperature since that time has been only 38 degrees – the third lowest reading on record.)
The picture above captured three early Spring daffodils bowing down in varying degrees to what most Roanokers hope will be winter’s last assault. They may get their wish as the forecast is for temperatures to rise into the upper 60’s with lows only falling into the 40’s. Not exactly summer but at least we’re headed in the right direction!
