“Bike tough trails, paddle wild waters, and ski steep slopes.” The Radical Reels Film Festival Tour runs every fall and spans North America bringing a variety of mountain sport films to a wide range of viewers from hard-core outdoor adventurers to weekend warriors. Grab your seats and hang on as the world’s best action films on skiing, boarding, climbing, biking, kayaking and more are all brought to life on the big screen.
“The Radical Reels Film Festival is the equivalent of the Sundance Film Festival, but for outdoor adventure films,” sais Pete Eshelman with the Roanoke Outside Foundation. “This is your once-a-year chance to see films that will leave you breathless…and inspired.”
Prior to watching the films attendees have the opportunity to meet local guides, outfitters, and clubs at the 5th annual Get Outside Expo. “It’s a great way to meet new people and discover new outdoor opportunities,” said Chris Heslin, owner of Underdog Bikes. “And when that’s over, everyone heads into the theater to experience more than half a dozen wild action sports as seen through the eyes of some most talented adventure sport filmmakers.”
While this year’s event is free, organizers are also asking for canned food donations and thanks to strong support from local outfitters and guides the group is raffling off $2,800 in gear, trips, and race entries with proceeds going to the Roanoke Outside Foundation.
Raffle tickets can be purchased in advance online or at the expo. Three prize packs will be raffled off during intermission. The Raceaholic Prize Pack includes gear and race entries for the runners; the Bike Enthusiast Prize Pack includes gear and event passes; and the Outdoor Adventurer Prize Pack includes camping gear, free memberships, and guide adventures.
