28th Annual Antique and Classic Boat Festival RESCHEDULED to OCT 13th

T

The Smith Mountain Lake Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society has announced the cancellation of their annual fall boat show scheduled at Mariners Landing on September 15, 2018 due to pending weather associated with Hurricane Florence. The show has been rescheduled for October 13, 2018 at Mariners Landing.  The gates will open at 10:00 A.M. and close at 4:00 P.M.

The public is cordially invited to this fun family oriented event. It includes lots of beautiful antique boats in the water and on-shore displays of early boating and nautical artifacts. There will be on-water boat demonstrations, good food and a variety of craft and collectible vendors.

This year’s show will again feature a Youth Judging Event for children. Additionally the Century Boat Club which normally holds their annual show in Manistee Michigan will bring their boats to Smith Mountain Lake for their International meeting. This will ensure a large number of boats for review.

A new and expanded show brochure profiling many events that will be presented during the show will be handed out at the show’s entry gate. Those attending the show will be given a “People’s Choice” ballot to vote for their favorite boat during their visit to the show.

This is the 14th year that the show is being held at Mariners Landing Resort. The antique and classic boat enthusiasts that attend from all over the East Coast represent the cream of antique boat collectors and many of the antique and classic boats they bring to the show are priceless examples of boating history.

The boat show is sponsored by the Smith Mountain Lake Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society, which has more than 8,500 members throughout the world. Approximately half of the 82 members of the local Chapter live on or near Smith Mountain Lake.

Proceeds from this year’s show go to local Smith Mountain Lake Charities and are made possible by the many businesses that sponsor the show.

As in the past, the boat show is free to the public but donations will always be accepted. For further information go to www.woodenboats.net or contact chapter president Alan Frederick 540-352-8653.
