Dating Project Results in Book—and Marriage “31 Dates in 31 Days”

Tamara Duricka Johnson

Roanoke College graduate, Tamara Duricka Johnson ’98, has released her first book on courtship, love and relationships. Johnson’s book, “31 Dates in 31 Days,” details the month-long dating project that led her straight into the arms of Mr. Right.

After countless breakups and years of painfully bad dates, Johnson decided that it was time to take matters into her own hands. Inspired by family and friends, she spent a month going on 30 first dates that cost less than $31 and blogging about each of them. On the 31st day of her project, which fell on Valentine’s Day, Johnson finally allowed herself to go on a second date. One year later, Johnson and her date, Evan Johnson, were married.

Inspired by her own success and personal growth, as well as enormous response to her blog, Johnson decided to write a book. The final product, she said, is “the book that I needed as a single person to help keep myself in check.”

A motivated student, Johnson graduated from Roanoke College in three years with two majors. She went on to obtain her master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.  Johnson worked in the television industry for more than 12 years, most recently as a writer for ABC’s “Good Morning America” in New York City.

“31 Dates in 31 Days,” published by Seal Press, is available for purchase online at various websites, such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble. The Roanoke College bookstore also carries the book.
