Virginia Stringbands To Perform at Blue Ridge Music Center

The Wolf Brothers
The Wolf Brothers

Two local stringbands, “Skeeter and the Skidmarks” and the “Wolfe Brothers” take the stage at the Blue Ridge Music Center on Saturday, August 31st for a memorable night of harmony singing, fiddle and banjo breakdowns.

Featuring three vocalists, the Wolfe Brothers’ repertoire ranges from rarely heard traditional songs and tunes to their own original material. Founding members Jerry Correll (fiddle) and Dale Morris (banjo, guitar) are joined by Casey Hash (guitar, accordion) and Donna Correll (bass). The Wolfe Brothers have played at many venues including Merlefest, the Carter Fold Festival, Floydfest, the Barter Theater, and the Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival. Their warm stage presence and unique music makes them a favorite wherever they go.

Skeeter and the Skidmarks is another popular, Virginia stringband that has been blending the old with the new since the group formed in 1991. Renowned, Appalachian artist Willard Gayheart writes great songs plus banjoist Edwin Lacey and multi-instrumentalist Scott Freeman have composed many fine instrumentals. Throw in some hot, traditional tune arrangements and the rock solid bass of Sandy Mason and you have Skeeter and the Skidmarks. This band recently won the “Entertainer of the Year” award in the Americana category at the 2013 Acoustic Uprising in Wytheville, Virginia.

The Virginia Stringbands concert starts at 7pm on Saturday, August 31st, 2013. Gates open at 5:30pm. Tickets: $10. Children 12 and under are free. All ticket sales support the center’s daily free programs and non-profit traditional music concert series. Advance tickets are available at the Blue Ridge Music Center, Barrs Fiddle Shop or online at www.BlueRidgeMusicCenter.org or by calling (276) 236-5309 x112.
