Commonwealth Games Get Underway

The 2018 Virginia Commonwealth Games at Liberty University is featuring seven sports this weekend, leading up to Main Games Weekend which is July 20-22. Sports being held this weekend include:
  • All Star Baseball –  July 20-22- Liberty University
  • Adult Slow Pitch Softball – July 21-22 –  Peaksview Park, Lynchburg
  • 5K Run – July 21 – Liberty University
  • Adult Rugby – July 15 – Central VA United Soccer Complex, Lynchburg
  • Figure Skating – July 21-22 – Liberty University
  • Youth Rugby – 21-22 – Haymarket, VA
 All Star Baseball begins Friday the 29th with first pitch of Game 1 (West vs Central) is set to take place at 6 pm followed by a small Opening Ceremonies for the tournament and then Game 2 at 8:30 pm.  Detailed schedule can also be found on games website.  The tournament will feature some of the top High School Players in Virginia.

Main Games Weekend is July 27-29 and kicks off at Liberty University on Friday, July 27 at 12 pm with Athlete Village festivities (Liberty is opening up their campus ice rink and Snowflex, and more) and the Grand Home Furnishings Athlete Tailgate Party from 4-6:30 pm.  Opening Ceremonies will follow at 7 pm at Williams Stadium, including Olympian Buddy Lee, the parade of athletes and more.

Main Games weekend upholds a positive reputation with the community for bolstering tourism and serving as an economic engine to the host city each year. For 29 years the Virginia Commonwealth Games have provided excellent opportunities for thousands of Virginians to develop and foster new relationships, establish new goals and personal bests, while at the same time learning teamwork, sportsmanship, as well as individual team responsibilities.
