As the City of Roanoke Fleet division is preparing for the upcoming winter, it is time to add a bit of fun to the season of snow. This year, Roanoke is inviting the community to get creative by naming the City’s snowplows. With at least 11 snowplows needing names, residents have the opportunity to make a mark on the City in a whimsical way, all while preparing for the colder months.

The contest officially kicks off October 15, and residents have until November 1 to submit their entries. This is a chance to be clever and imaginative, but there are a few important rules to follow. Entries must be under 20 characters, and avoid using personal names, political references, or inappropriate language. Each participant must provide valid contact information, and if the person submitting is under 18, parental consent is required for selected entries.

Roanoke Fleet Manager Wayne Farley said, “This is a great way for residents to get involved with something fun and lighthearted while also connecting with the services that keep our City running during the winter months.”

Winners will be announced in early December, and those selected will not only see their chosen name displayed on a snowplow but will also receive a Roanoke swag bag and a special photo op with their plow. So, get ready to brainstorm your best snowplow names and be a part of Roanoke’s new winter tradition!
