Patrick Henry High School’s band program has been recognized by the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association with a unanimous Superior Rating at the South Central Marching Assessment event. This is only the second time in Roanoke City Public Schools (RCPS) history that a high school has been recognized with a unanimous superior rating at this event. Additionally, Patrick Henry is one of the few high schools in Southwest Virginia and one of about sixty high schools in the state to be recognized with this award.
The Patrick Henry High School Marching Patriots — consisting of over 100 student musicians — received a Superior rating from all adjudicators in visual and music captions. The band performed at the VBODA Marching Assessment event on Wednesday, October 23 at the Salem Civic Center.
The title of their 2024 field show was “Rockstar!” and included music by Joan Jett, Richard Strauss, Boston, Isaac Albeniz, Aerosmith, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. The band is led by Patrick Henry High School Band Teacher Alex Schmitt.
