To express gratitude to the U.S veterans and recognize their priceless sacrifices and services, a devoted group visited Davis & McDaniel Veteran Care Center in Roanoke to sing a Christmas Carol and wish them a Merry Christmas. Doug Price has organized the event to show those great veterans that they are not alone on such a Holy Day.
In a melodious way the group sung the beautiful songs which created a joyful environment and put smiles on the veterans’ faces. The Veterans from the wars of Vietnam, Korea, and even WWII were among the residents who listened and enjoyed the songs. An important part of American patriotism is remembering the Veterans’ sacrifices and the act of selflessness they have given in serving America.
The result of the sacrifices of the U.S service members can be reflected on the communities during the holidays when people stop and give thanks that they can freely enjoy and celebrate with no fear. To include the veterans in such a celebration is only a simple way to show them appreciation.
Stanley Cuer is a Vietnam veteran and currently resident of Davis & McDaniel Veteran Care Center. He exemplifies true patriotism with a positive attitude, as in this Christmas season, he reminded and advised people to be patriotic and persistent. Mr. Stanley said, “ What I have to say to the American public is don’t say, “I can’t do it.” Where there is always a will, there is always a way. Show love instead of hate.”
Mr. Stanley thanked the group for coming to sing for the veterans and said that staying in the Care Center, the residents often get lonely. Indeed, visiting the veterans and interacting with them is necessary to show them that they have not been forgotten. Listening to the veterans and learning about their experiences can put lights on many important aspects in life that the public is not aware of.
In fact, the dedications and sacrifices of American veterans are beyond America, they indeed have sacrificed for humanity across the world. The true definition of what American veterans have given cannot be formed in one or two words, or even in a few sentences.
In this Christmas season, while Americans are living under a flag which represents the great nation of America, walking on the path of freedom, and shopping for Christmas, they must not forget the brave American veterans.
