The ESU Lexington Branch Annual Shakespeare Competition scheduled for January 19, 2019 has been canceled due to inclement weather predicted for Staunton. The competition has been rescheduled for SATURDAY, JANUARY 26 at 10:00 a.m. The competition will be held at The Blackfriars Playhouse, 10 South Market Street in Staunton, and will be followed by a reception. The public is invited to attend this event at no charge.
Students from Roanoke City, Rockingham County, Appomattox County, Augusta County, Bedford County and Harrisonburg City high schools will compete on January 19 at 10:00 a.m. in the English-Speaking Union (ESU) Lexington Branch Annual Shakespeare Competition. Participating students are the winners of their individual high school Shakespeare competitions held earlier.
The competition will be held at The Blackfriars Playhouse, 10 South Market Street in Staunton, and will be followed by a reception.
Each student will perform a Shakespearean monologue and sonnet. The winner of the Lexington Branch competition will receive an all-expenses paid trip to New York City in April, where they will compete with contestants from around the country in the ESU National Shakespeare Competition. The winner of the national competition will receive a scholarship and airfare to attend the British American Drama Academy Midsummer Conservatory Program in Oxford, England.
The public is invited to attend this event at no charge.
