Five Cave Spring sport standouts signed to play at the higher level in a ceremony last Thursday in the Knight’s gym.
Jocelyn Kellinger, a first-team All State, All Region and All District volleyball player ,will attend Queens College in Charlotte, NC. Kellinger was a four-year player at Cave Spring and a member of the state championship team in her freshman year. She chose Queens because of its new coach and wanting to be part of the restart of the volleyball program.
Molly Western will attend VMI where she will run track for the Keydets. She was All Region in cross country and in indoor/outdoor track for Cave Spring. “I wanted to go to a military school, “Western said. She also considered West Point and will major in biology at VMI.
Also in track, Taylor Bohon has picked Hampden-Sydney in Farmville. Bohon was All District in indoor and outdoor for the Knights. “I liked the small class setting at Hampden-Sydney, “he noted. Bohon plans to study pre-law.
Lauren Markey will attend Radford where she will play soccer. Markey, who said the location only 45 minutes from home was a key factor, currently is the Knight’s goalkeeper. “Radford has great coaches and a beautiful campus,” she said. Markey will major in physical therapy.
Frazier Howes will attend Northwestern College/Iowa in Orange City and play boys’ soccer. A two-year starter for the Knights, he also considered Lynchburg and Emory and Henry, but the decision to go to Northwestern was easy. “My girlfriend goes there, “he said with a smile.
