Roanoke Catholic Girls Down Cave Spring 59-46 With Second Half Surge

Roanoke Catholic used a 9-2 run to open the second half, and the Lady Celtics battled to the 59-46 win over Cave Spring in girls basketball in a non-district matchup at the Knights gym.

Things were tight through most of the first half, with Lady Knight’s senior guard Zenebia Brown-Saunders’ layup at the buzzer tying the score 12-12 after the first quarter.

Cave Spring led by six late in the first half before the Celtics closed to within one, 27-26, heading to the intermission.

Catholic streaked out on the 9-2 run to open the third quarter and, although the Lady Knights cut the deficit to 2 points, the Celtics closed the third frame on a 6-0 push to lead 44-36.

Catholic would expand their advantage to 13 points midway through the final quarter, holding off Cave Spring down the stretch to secure the win.

Roanoke Catholic (9-2) was led in scoring by Olivia Clark’s 13 points, while Gabby McClelland added 12 for the Celtics.

Freshman Cait Flippen had a game-high 21 points for the Lady Knights (3-8), with sophomore Cassie Parulis adding 14 points for Cave Spring.
