The Market Gallery featured artists from July 2-27 are Bonnie Burt and Ann Glover. Patrons can meet and chat with the artists at a reception on Friday, July 5, during Art by Night, (5:30pm to 9pm).
Bonnie Burt’s recent work is titled: “Annie’s Quilt of Pinwheels and Butterflies”. Burt explained the new piece; “The fabric overlaying this canvas is actually what remains of a quilt made for me by my dearest Aunt Annie. She made the most beautiful hand-stitched quilts and I wore this one every night until it fell apart. If you peeled this quilt away from the canvas you would see the words that connect my aunt and I – words of life challenges, of significant loss in the tragic loss of my oldest son and ones that connect our matriarchal lives and experiences. The quilt overlays these written thoughts to convey a sense of comfort. It is a representation of the pieces that make our lives whole and the broken pieces that represent loss, the pieces that can never be reassembled.”
Ann Glover’s new work is represented by “Wonderful”, which is a mixed media placard made from layered and found materials; fabric, hand cut stencils spray painted and oil painted images. Her intention was to create artifacts using archival type fonts, pictograms and layered images with contemporary or timeless themes.
