Northside picked up the first four points in quick fashion of the requisite five needed in their first round Region III quarterfinal girls tennis match against Jefferson Forest Tuesday afternoon at Waldrond Park.
The Lady Vikings were up to the challenge, outlasting the Cavaliers from Forest 5-2. The match was halted when Northside claimed the fifth point.
Northside’s Karlie Pope, playing in the number-one position, dispatched Joy Woo of JF 6-1, 6-2 to improve her season singles record to 19-2. Last week Pope had also claimed the Blue Ridge District singles title.
Kayla Besase and Andrea Elrod also scored points for Northside with straight set wins in singles, while Besase and Elrod teamed for a doubles win over Yoo and her JF teammate Jasmine Callahan 6-3;6-3 to secure the match clinching point for the Lady Vikings.
